North of Cebu City, the Alegre Beach Resort offers exclusive and high-quality service in a tropical setting — 27 hectares of green oasis overlooking a cove of white sand bordered by the sea. The resort is managed by Pathfinder Holdings, which also owns the Cebu Plaza Hotel.

The restaurant, which also incorporates the bar, is the central point of the resort. It is in extremely charming, low building with an original double nipa roof and offers an outstanding panorama view of the sea and the neighboring islands. You can have your meals either indoors, in air-conditioned comfort, or outside in the terrace, open to the sea breeze. The food, served buffet style, is excellent. Singers perform during the evening meals. The restaurant also offers a nice view of the swimming pool through the bay windows. The attractive 3-tiered pool, brightly lit in the evenings, is surrounded by the plants and shrubs and its spanned by little bridges.

The cabanas with nipa roofs are scattered over the prett, green lawns amidst the trees and flowers. The most stunning of these, the Ocean View Cabanas, are perched on top of a cliff and have a spectacular view of the beach and sea. One of them even has its own private garden. The others look out onto the gardens where it is not unusual to get a glimpse of monitor lizards scurrying by.

Each cabana has two rooms, both of which are remarkably furnished and the level of comfort is exceptional. The decor, focused on beautiful wood, creates a congenial atmosphere. The innovatively-designed furniture is sophisticated and sober. The frosted glass lamps diffuse soft light, creating a feeling of well-being. Plants, wicker baskets, fabrics and carpets in pastel shades make for more intimate and personal rooms.

The marble bathrooms, done in warm tones, are a particular success. Separated from the room by Venetian blinds, these are immerse and luxurious, with a shower and a shining white bathtub, which even includes a jacuzzi. The light pours in blissfully through bay windows. Each cabana has a private terrace with lounge chairs.

The beach, accessible via a staircase, is fringe by palm trees. You can snorkel in the coral reef in front of the beach you can be brought further out by banca. Many other activities are offered at rates relative to the prestige of the hotel. The sunset cruise, included in the package, is a privileged moment even if the dolphins are not always in cue. Calanganman Island, with its white and turquoise-blue waters, is a paradise. Divers can visit the House Reef before venturing out to the nearby islands of Talong or Capitancillo.
