Bahay Bakasyunan sa Cami-guin, which in English means “Vacation House in Camiguin,” was conceived by its owner, Mr. Efren Uy, as a place for accommodating visiting family members. In 1994, the house was transformed into a resort preserving its hospitable, family atmosphere. The keys to your room are handed over to you without any formality as you arrive at the central pavilion housing the reception area and the boutique.

The six duplex bungalows, each with two rooms, are aligned at a good distance from each other on half of the terrain. The other half has been left in its natural state. There is an impressive coconut grove on the meticulously maintained lawns.

The resort has the advantage of having better ventilation than in the other resorts on the island where the structures are a bit too compact.

The ensemble is relaxing, neat and clean. The architecture is resolutely traditional with nipa roofing, bamboo walls and furniture. An extra bed may be added without any difficulty, as the rooms are comfortably spacious. All the rooms have individual terraces that look out onto the coconut grove.

While it is possible to swim in the sea after walking over large pebbles, Bahay Bakasyunan sa Camiguin does not have a beach—its only weak point. However, this is largely compensated by the big swimming pool situated on the edge of the shore. It is pleasant, surrounded by green lawns, with a special pool for children and a separate Jacuzzi. You will especially appreciate it if you go to Camiguin during the cool season, which is also the time for the Lanzones Festival.

You can also rent a van or a banca belonging to the resort and accomplish all the excursions to the points of interest in Camiguin, without being obliged to go to Mambajao where the travel agents are located. If you prefer a motorbike, you can rent one in Mambajao.

The Cafe Cecilia is a well-ventilated structure in traditional style, opening onto the sea. It is advisable to order in advance so as to avoid an interminable wait.

I think the owner of Bahay Bakasyunan is different now. On-going additions are a bigger an better reception and gym. Bahay Bakasyunan is really the prime of Camiguin. They provide the best service as well as the best accommodation and amenities.
