PRC held the December 2011 Nursing licensure examination on December 18 and 19 on different test centers around the Philippines such as in Manila, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Cebu, Baguio, Davao, Dagupan, La Union, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Nueva Edija, Tacloban, Pampanga, Zamboanga and Tuguegarao. The list of passers for the nursing board exam results December 2011 will soon be released together with the list of top 10 examiners and the list of top performing schools.

Before one can become a registered nurse, he/she must first pass the nursing licensure examination. Just like any other professionals under the Professional Regulations Commission, this is a vital requirement which is why it’s very important for nursing graduates to pass this exam if they want to venture further into their profession. Otherwise, they will not be considered as registered nurses.

We will soon find out the percentage of examinees who actually passed the licensure exam and if the trend is going up or it’s going down. The previous examinees took the board exam on July 2011 and there had been 37,513 board passers out of the 78,135. That’s 48.01%. The December 2010 NLE results had 29,711 passers out of the 84,287 board exam takers making the percentage of passers at only 35.24%.

The percentage of passing examinees shows the quality of education for nursing students in the country. It means that the higher the percentage the better proof the nursing education is of high quality. But with the number of nursing schools sprouting everywhere, it’s hard to keep the percentage high because of sub-quality schools that are in it for the money and not because they want to graduate quality students that will surely pass the licensure examination. The government is said to be working on this and we’ll soon see if the exam results prove that their efforts are working.
