UPDATE: Tinuy- an Falls is open as December 21, 2022 as per LGU MEMO ORDER No. 2022-726.
Tinuy an Falls is one of the most popular and well-known tourist attractions in the Philippines, located in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur. However, it has recently been temporarily closed pending the finalization of the negotiations between LGU Bislig, MATRICOSO, and Manobo Tribal Council. The closure came following a memorandum order from LGU Bislig entitled “Temporary Closure of Tinuy an Falls” which was issued to address a dispute that had arisen regarding access to this site.
The memorandum order states that Tinuy an Falls will remain closed to visitors until the dispute between parties is resolved. This means that all commercial, recreational, and educational activities at the falls are prohibited until further notice. The Memorandum Order also provides for strict enforcement of this temporary closure by local authorities to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
The dispute between LGU Bislig and Manobo Tribal Council has caused much controversy among locals; many have expressed their concern over the impact on tourism and local businesses due to lack of access to Tinuy an Falls during this period, while others believe it is important to protect traditional rights and ensure proper environmental management practices are observed. As negotiations progress, it remains unclear when Tinuy an Falls shall be re-opened for tourists; however all parties involved have agreed upon working towards an amicable resolution soonest possible.
