Atlantis Resort Dumaguete was formerly the resort of Aquavit, under the management of German national Bernd Scheuer, who, for more than 30 yeas, has traveled in different places as a professional diver. It was recently associated with Atlantis at Puerto Galera whose name it now bears
Located on the black sand beach of Dauin, not far from El Dorado Beach Resort, this resort is possibly the most pleasant of the resorts along this coast where visitors come mainly for the fabulous diving on Apo Island, just an hour away by banca.
Atlantis is set in a veritable oasis filled with beautiful trees and flowering plants. A pretty pond brimming with water lilies is set among the plants. A tiled alley bordered by nipa-capped lanterns leads, through a green lawn, to where the spacious bungalows are found.
The bungalows are superb — white walls decorated with brown geometric designs and nipa roofs n the form of pagodas. Each has a terrace opening onto the garden. Two independent duplex bungalows face the sea and it is quite relaxing to stretch out on the hammocks, looking at the beach bordered with periwinkles and bindweed. The rooms are very restful with immaculate white walls contrasting with red tile floors. The bamboo furniture is original in design. A splash of color is achieve with the bedcovers and the wall hangings.
The restaurant with its little bar is pleasantly located in front of the sea. At the back of the restaurant is a nice bamboo building, which houses the dive center and the library.
A recent extension work has not diminished the charm of the resort in any way, as the new building, sheltering the additional rooms, is at the back of the resort. These rooms, however, though as comfortable as the cottages, have the disadvantage of being further from the sea. Fortunately, the swimming pool is just close by.
How to get there
By air and land, 75-minute flights on Air Philippines or Cebu Pacific from Manila to Dumaguete, 20 minutes by van from Dumaguete airport to the resort.
