The San Roque Beach Resort is the only resort directly on the banks of Taal Lake. Its owner, Lita Merkx, is a Filipina married to a Dutchman. After the construction of the resort in 1997, Lita, who was born here, acquired the neighboring property and expanded the resort that now has 12 rooms. The charm of San Roque lies in the beauty and serenity of the area, the magnificent view of the lake and its volcano, and the warmth and welcome of its owners.

If you are in a small group, you can rent the Guest House. Unlike the Kubo House and Nipa Huts, it is a concrete structure – without any particular charm – with three rooms, a furnished kitchen, a drawing room and a nice terrace looking out to the lake.

The Nipa Hut and the Kubo House were built in a more traditional style – nipa roods plaited bamboo walls. The tile floors are the only concession to modern comfort. The curtains and floral bedcovers are the only touch of fancy. Although the huts are small, the use of space was maximized to contain all the essentials. The twin rooms of the Nipa Hut are convenient for families with two children.

The resort has a homey atmosphere. Lita is ever ready to prepare your favorite dish on request, served in the small canteen (protected by mosquito nets) in the garden.

You can swim in the lake where the extremely clean water is tested twice a year by a team of foreign researchers and specialists from the University if the Philippines. A small corner of the beach is furnished with armchairs, deck chairs and parasols, the gray sand is raked and cleaned everyday.

The resort’s banca is available for an excursion of the volcano, which is on the opposite bank. A small row boat is also made available for discovering the lake.

At the nearby Taal Lake Yacth Club it is possible to rent a sailboat and kayaks, and take sailing lessons – without having to be a member The club also organizes monthly regattas.
