In the midst of the highly urbanized city of Cebu, in the Beverly Hills residential suburbs, is the Cebu Taoist Temple. The temple is located around 300 meters above the sea level and offers visitors a panoramic view of nearby city areas. It was put up by the Chinese community based in the city considering the large population of Chinese in Cebu, around 15% of the city’s populace. Unlike most temples, the Cebu Taoist temple welcomes both worshipers and non-worshipers alike. It could be reached through three different routes and the entrance replicates that of the Great Wall of China. Visitors could take a look at the temple’s chapel, library, souvenir shop and wishing well. On Wednesdays and Sundays, tourists could also witness Taoists doing the ritual of climbing the temple’s 81 steps representational of the 81 Taoist scriptures. Since the place is quiet and very serene, it is ideal for people who want to meditate or just take some time off from their everyday lives.
