Set on the fringers of the pathway that runs through White Beach, Nigi Nigi Nu Noos ‘e’ Nu Noos Beach Resort occupies a central location on the beach front. Opened over 10 years ago, it is manged by Filipino, English and Canadian nationals.

The resort is architecturally enchanting. In the garden, with stone statues of vigilant divinities, are nine Balinese-style bamboo pagodas built close to one another. There pagodas, with pointed nipa roofs, house the rooms. Each has two rooms except in the two-story pagoda, which has four.

You can choose between airconditioned and fan-cooled rooms, or between standard rooms, which are not very large, and family rooms, which have a mezzanine.

The rooms are bright due to wide, picture windows. Bamboo is used as the major decorative element for the interiors — thick bamboo poles on the ceiling and braided bamboo on the walls. The huge beds, also made from bamboo, are fitted with mosquito netting. Philippine and Balinese handicraft articles like fans, batik, carpets, wooden sculptures, wicker and pottery create a warm ethnic atmosphere. The attached bathrooms are just as pleasant and comfortable.

The rooms are extended on to the terraces furnished with benches and double-seats from where you can admire the garden. Privacy from the neighboring room is ensured by a dividing panel.

The spacious bamboo restaurant is built along the pathway leading out toward the sea. Here, you will find brightly-colored wooden Balinese statues and the tables are covered with batik cloths. A domesticated kalaw bird might just keep you company as you dine. The restaurant’s cuisine enjoys a good reputation while the Nigi Nigi Jazz Blues Bar right next door is famous for its cocktails.

The resort has a cyber cafe. It also offers many services including a banca for excursions around the island.

How to get there

By air, land and sea, 55-minute daily flights on PAL or Cebu Pacific from Manila to Kalibo, 90 minutes by air-conditioned bus on Southwest Tours from Kalibo airport to Caticlan Jetty Port. Departures depend on flight schedules. 20 minutes by banca from Caticlan Jetty port to the resort.
